About Em

Em Campbell-Pretty
Certified Trainer - Training from the Back of the Room (CT-TBR)
Extreme Leadership Certified Facilitator

After close to 20 years in business management roles within multinational blue chip corporations, Em discovered Agile and became passionate about the opportunity it provides to align business and IT around the delivery of value. In 2012, she launched Australia’s first Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) Agile Release Train at Telstra. The story of the cultural transformation that accompanied the launch of this train has become legendary in the agile community, which has led to her being considered a thought leader on scaling agile culture. A true servant leader, Em is committed to building great teams and transforming culture whilst still maintaining focus on delivering business outcomes.

As an experienced General Manager, Em is comfortable to operate at all levels of the organisation whether it be presenting to CXOs, collaborating with executives or working with delivery teams on more operational challenges. While at Telstra, she proved her ability to deliver large scale, multimillion-dollar programs on time and on budget. At the heart of Em’s success is her unrelenting focus on building a culture of transparency, lean leadership, learning and innovation.

Since partnering with Mark Richards to found Context Matters in early 2014, Em has successfully launched Agile Release Trains at RMIT University, Westpac Banking Corporation, the Australian Taxation Office, ANZ Banking Group, EDMI Limited and Latitude Financial Services. Both the RMIT and Westpac trains have been published as official SAFe case study, making Em the only SAFe consultant in the world to have three distinct official SAFe case studies.

In September 2017, became the Managing Director at Pretty Agile Pty Ltd, a boutique consulting and training company focused on helping organisations achieve Tribal Unity leveraging the Scaled Agile Framework and using Em’s unique, culture first approach to launching Agile Release Trains.

Em is an active member of the global agile community and was invited to co-chair the Enterprise Agile track for the Agile Alliance 2014, 2015 and 2016 conferences. She is a recognised expert in Scaling Agile and frequently speaks about her experiences at conferences across the globe. In 2017 Em became one of the first 4 people in the world outside framework’s creators, Scaled Agile Inc. to be designated a SAFe Fellow. Em is also the author of the popular blog about scaling agile: PrettyAgile.com and the Amazon #1 Best Seller: Tribal Unity: Getting from Teams to Tribes by Creating a One Team Culture.
